Happy Valentine’s Day!
I don’t have much to share today since we spent the weekend celebrating Valentine’s Day early by dining out a lot. We had grand plans to do an eating tour of Minneapolis dives, but after coming to terms with the not-so-large size of my stomach and time conflicts with a big basketball game we ended up just going out for brunch and dinner. I’m not complaining, though. Brunch and dinner out meant I got to eat a biscuit with chorizo gravy, a torta slathered with chili con queso, and a vanilla milkshake. Don’t worry, I ate some fruits and vegetables, too. They just might have been in the form of a margarita and salsa. My heart is still ticking, so Happy Valentine’s Day to me!
In defense of Rachael Ray: her Lasagna with Butternut Squash and Escarole is really good (even when made with swiss chard instead of escarole).
Everything is better with cheese sauce.
Whole Wheat Chocolate Brown Sugar Cookies from Joy the Baker
These cookies are excellent. They really don’t need frosting, but I couldn’t resist making little gnome hats.
Changes I made:
- Used whole wheat pastry flour instead of whole wheat flour
- Added 1/2 (or maybe 1) tsp vanilla
- Added 1 tsp instant espresso (not sure that it made a difference, but I had the urge to add it)

I love Gnomes!
