Weekend Eats is a day late, but I’ve been busy. Busy “running errands” with my mom. Busy running a 10-mile race. Busy popping ibuprofen to ease the pain of running 10-miles in the bitter cold. Busy holding a cute baby. Busy watching the baby’s big brother eat a cookie the size of his head. Busy eating great food. Busy fielding phone calls from my newly engaged best friend. Busy trying to figure out what to sew with my loaner sewing machine. Just busy.
Saturday

Before the blustery Irish for a Day 10-mile
Running
Closing in on mile 9
Enjoying the treats at the finish
Salted nut rolls!
Post-race lunch: 1/2 blue cow and 1/2 reuben from Caffrey’s
By Saturday night we were too exhausted to go out for dinner, so we picked up an assortment of treats from Whole Foods instead. My mom was set on buying a loaf of her favorite Seeduction bread, and I happily obliged because it meant I was able to try out my fancy new bread knife. Exciting!
Sunday
Sunday started with a rubbery, less than stellar quiche at the otherwise wonderful French Meadow Cafe. Maybe it was the universe telling me that I should have ordered a mammoth cinnamon roll and a side of bacon.
After “running errands” all afternoon, we treated ourselves to a totally amazing dinner at Piccolo. The highlights for me were the lamb ribs pictured above and an octopus dish with the most perfectly cooked octopus I’ve ever eaten.
Like any good meal, this one came to a close with three desserts. The chocolate soup with coconut, cinnamon, and hot pepper oil was the unanimous winner, but all three were delicious.
