Despite the fact that it was ninety-plus degrees and Chinese food was consumed, we had a great weekend. Greatness was due to a steady breeze, good food, lots of time with friends, and plenty of ice cream.
I wanted to surprise Matt on Friday with some celebratory Marshmallow Man after he had a big day at work, and Grand Ole Creamery surprised me with a buy two get one free deal that’s happening for the entire month of June. Ice cream surprises are the best kind.
I also let Matt have free rein over Friday dinner plans, and he chose to order a spread of Chinese food. Goopy sauces are not my thing, but a few cream cheese wontons here and there are good for the soul, as is being a nice girlfriend. Hunan beef? Not so much.
We each had early wake-up calls on Saturday – Matt for a tee time and me for the Lederhosenlauf 5K. It was a hot and sunny run, and I skipped the free beer and brat at the finish line so I could book it home for a cold shower and handful of Cheerios before rushing off to a baby shower for a girlfriend from law school.
I’m excited to see the results of our tie-dyed onesies, especially the five-legged, dorsal-finned brontosaurus to the left.
Awesome party favors!
This Rustica ham and cheese focaccia was the only thing making a long, slow drive home in detoured traffic bearable. It was fantastic.
Little herb settled in on our deck, and we headed out for a fun night of dinner and ice cream with some friends of friends who will hopefully soon be simply friends.
I tried to sleep in on Sunday, and when that failed I decided to take advantage of the relative coolness of the morning and headed to the farmers’ market where I maybe went a little overboard. Not pictured: broccoli, snap peas, eggs.
Post-market brunch: toasted Rustica levain, beet greens and goat cheese frittata, fruit.
Sunday dinner: barbecue beef tartines with chips and guacamole.
