Blue cheese, steak and pickled red onion toasts solved the dilemma of who got to eat the leftover steak. They could probably solve a lot of other dilemmas, too.
Bad picture, good nachos. Story of my life. Especially the good nachos part.
Ecto Cooler. Or pureed honeydew.
Ecto Cooler, waffles from the freezer, and a book to make up for the lack of The Onion.
Practicing our skills.
I thought that selecting paint samples at Home Depot was pretty exciting, but then we went to Dick’s Sporting Goods where I met Rickie Fowler, carried around my new ten-pound weights for an eternity while someone putted with every single putter that was on the green, and then was hit on by some college kid working at the cash register while standing right next to my boyfriend. If anyone with grayish-green eyes is looking for a hyped up on 5-hour Energy cashier who is “an eyes and teeth guy,” he works at Dick’s in Woodbury.
There was a dude fest in our living room for the UFC fight on Saturday night, so I stocked up on chips, dip, and beer and headed out to the deck with my book for a wild night.
I made the dough for this wheat bread with pumpkin and sunflower seeds late last week, but I waited until Sunday morning when it wasn’t ninety-five degrees to bake it. I guess you could say the flavor is complex, but the jury’s still out on whether it’s complex good or complex bad.
Our vegetable garden needed a little tending, and after transplanting dozens of onions I harvested our first items: radicchio and a beet. Rabbits love cabbage, brussels sprouts, kale, mesclun, chard, and probably some other things that I forgot that we ever planted, but they’re not so into bitter greens.
Picking vegetables that we grew was pretty awesome, but so was (finally) making my first batch of brown sugar. I know that it’s just about the easiest thing to make, but it’s even easier to throw a bag of it in the cart while roaming the aisles of Target. Homemade is definitely the more exciting option, though, and I think I’ll stick to it.
Sunday night grilling.
The weekend ended with the most perfectly cooked pork chop that I’ve ever eaten at home, grilled veggies and salad containing freshly picked radicchio. And for dessert, a few bites of my new favorite chocolate bar that contains fruit from my favorite vacation spot. A good weekend for sure.
