2013 Weekends – Week 5

I was convinced that I was getting a cold last week, so I kicked off the weekend with my first ever hot toddy. No cold yet, and I know how I’ll treat it (or treat myself) if it ever comes.

Lasagna: I used this recipe from Saveur and sautéed a little extra spicy Italian sausage instead of making the meatballs. One of the better lasagnas I’ve made.

Saturday lunch with a friend: cubano salad at Cheeky Monkey. It’s hard for me to give up good bread, but I needed some greens in my life, and this salad did not disappoint.

Food highlight of my weekend: baguette slices smeared with a mixture of butter, roasted garlic and salt

Entertainment highlights: Zero Dark Thirty and the noma episode of The Mind of a Chef (You can watch it here, and you absolutely should.)

Super Bowl spread: Spinach artichoke dip

Mushrooms stuffed with goat cheese, shallots, bread crumbs, and parsley (sautéing the mushroom stems, shallots and breadcrumbs in bacon fat is key)
